The new St. David’s opened in Cardiff last year, fulfilling its vision to be a unique shopping, leisure, cultural and tourist destination created by the regeneration of the heart of the city centre, and transforming Cardiff into one of the most dynamic cities in Europe.
Bovis Lend Lease was appointed as main build contractor in May 2006. The building work was programmed over a three year period and was completed in autumn 2009 with the centre opening to the public during a grand launch on 22 October.
This £675 million construction project has now made St. David’s one of the UK’s largest retail centres, with the annual footfall this year expected to be around 33 million. Naturally, many of those people will be arriving by car, and Rock has recently completed handover of 75,000 sq m of top deck and intermediate deck car park finishes to Bovis.
When it comes to car park design and construction, Rock offers a surprisingly wide range of related products and services. They include Flexiphalte, Solardec, coloured deck surfaces, bay marking, signage, anti-carbonation protection and design services. Waterproofing the Shard
Rock are delighted to announce our winning of the waterproofing contract for the highly prestigious London Bridge Tower, better known as the Shard. Its architect, Renzo Piano, has said that “the tower is designed to be a sharp and light presence on the London skyline, and to be sustainable from every point of view: human, technological, energetic and economic.”
When completed in 2012, the Shard will stand at 310 m tall and have 72 floors, plus 15 further radiator floors in the roof. It will be Britain's tallest building and the tallest in the European Union.
Unlike many of London’s famous towers, the Shard will have a public viewing gallery at the top. Once our work is finished, we’re certainly looking forward to taking in the spectacular views over London from the gallery.
Rock are also extending our services to the temporary waterproofing facility during the tower’s construction.
If you would like to learn more about Rock’s involvement on the Shard, please contact Michael Sharkey on 07500 858 581.
